coast to coast 2011

coast to coast - day 17

Intake Farm, Littlebeck to Robin Hood’s Bay

11.73 miles 2,432 feet.
Start: 08:45 Finish: 13:30 Elapsed time: 5:45 Cumulative time: 99:15

It was with a mixture of excitement and regret that I set off on the final leg of my C2C crossing. It was a nice sunny day but showers were forecast at lunchtime - would I make it without getting wet?

I’d done the first section from Littlebeck to New May Beck previously but it didn’t detract from what was a delightful walk past The Hermitage and Falling Foss waterfall.

The path across Sneaton Low Moor wasn’t signed very well when leaving the road at New May Beck and I was later caught up by a couple of Aussies who I’d met in Littlebeck and had passed me just after Falling Foss where I stopped to read many text messages with 60th birthday wishes . They missed the turning and made their own way across the moor to join me before setting of across Greystones Hills. We overtook each other a couple of times before walking into Robin Hood’s Bay together to take the normal end of walk photographs. It was good to see the sea again and to know that I’d completed the C2C crossing.

It was a pity that the pub where you sign the C2C completer’s book was covered in scaffolding and spoiled the picture.

The following pictures show the result of 17 cooked breakfasts and pub meals (time to get back on the diet) and the final dipping of boots in the sea.
